"This was a good course with great scenary. Some fog in the morning but I could have started later and the combination of flat coastal roads and challenging hills made for an exellent start to this Sunday. The organization was very good, as were the road markings and frequency of rest stops - if you want to do the "Chilly Hilly" in summer, then this is your ride. I'll be back next year!"

"Overall the ride was a great workout and plan on coming back next year. Plenty of rest areas, but I only stopped at the last one, which was at Fort Ward. There the peaches and grapes tasted great! The ice cream with blueberries at the finish was a nice way to finish off the ride. The fog was a bummer and it was close to the same course/direction as Chilly Hilly from talking to some other riders. The ride was not in the opposite direction as mentioned.I'm glad I rode this, so I now know what to expect for the Chilly Hilly. (Watch out for Arrow Point Hill)"

"Overall we had a great time at this event. The course was well laid out, although fog in the morning kept much of the beautiful scenery well hidden. By the end of the ride the sun finally came out, so we had a nice stroll through downtown Winslow after the ride. The ride organizers did a good job, with nice snacks and a well-marked course. Looking forward to making this an annual event."

The Summer Challenge is both Scenic and a Challenge!

If you have ridden the Chilly Hilly in the cold and wet spring weather, you will appreciate riding roughly the same course in our mild mid-August weather!  (We have received a firm commitment from the weather gods that the mid-August weather will be ideal!)

Elevate your game by riding the Summer Challenge! Test yourself on the ups and downs of the regular 34 mile Summer Challenge Ride or the new 52 mile Hill Climber's Challenge Ride or the 16 mile Family Challenge Ride and then join us for the after ride Festival. Whichever route you pick, you will enjoy the scenic beauty of Bainbridge Island while knowing that 100% of your entrance fees are recycled through our community to aid children and needy families.

Bainbridge Island was carved by the Glaciers. Each ridge you ride up and each dip you coast down into, was scraped out by the advancing Glacier and left here when the Glaciers retreated. Come to the Bainbridge Summer Challenge and ride them all!

Riding on Bainbridge Island is a great experience. Ride at your own pace through urban, suburban and country roads and stop anytime you feel like sightseeing! You are on "island time". You will ride along beautiful shorelines with their cool breezes and on country roads through towering forests. There are exciting views of mountains in all four directions from Mt. Baker to Mt. Rainier, from the Olympics to the Cascades. You can see ferries, sailboats, container ships, the cruise liners and maybe even an Aircraft Carrier or Nuclear Submarine!

Bainbridge is "in the country" while just a short ferry ride fromSeattle. It is quaint with farms, protected forests and parks as well as beautiful

homes in the forest and overlooking the beaches. There are many places you may want to take a break from the Challenge and just stop, look and perhaps explore - from Fay Bainbridge park at the north tip down to Fort Ward Park in the south. You will ride by small shops at Lynnwood Center, Island Center and Rolling Bay. All interesting places to stop for a few minutes.

The ride starts and ends at Waterfront Park right next to downtown Winslow where there are many shops as well as many places to eat for allpalates (BBQ, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Southwestern, Sushi, Teriyaki, Thai, Pizza as well as award-winning traditional restaurants) from fast food to the high end. There will be a post-ride festival in Waterfront Park following the ride with music, booths and food. Winslow has two great bike shops, a camping store and a traveler's store as well as several wine tasting shops. You should have a great time on Bainbridge before you have to catch the ferry back to the hustle and bustle of Seattle.

Bainbridge has a number of hotels, motels and inns available as well as Bed and Breakfasts. Perhaps you will want to stay several relaxed days with us and have more time to explore the Island before you go back to the hustle and bustle of urban life! (Click for lodging links).
